Born on the 18th April 1925 in Sheffield, James Maurice Shore joined the Royal Navy in 1943 at H.M.S. Ganges at Shotley, Ipswich, Suffolk. and joined H.M.S Undine at Thornycroft shipyard at Southampton, England. H.M.S. Undine was part of the Allied Fleet on D-Day 6th June 1944 escorting Bombardment force K off the Normandy coast where the ships guns fired salvos onto the German Positions on the coast at Gold Beach, ahead of the troop landings. it is known that H.M.S. Undine had direct hits on at least two German Pillboxes. Shore was incharge of the ships emergancy lighting, assissting in operating of 4.7inch ships guns, torpedo tubes and depth charges.
After the Successful Allied Invasion of France, H.M.S Undine part of 25th Flotilla left to join the British Fleet in the Pacific and South East Asia fighting the Japanese. Arriving in Ceylon in December 1944.
Together with newspaper clippings and documentation regarding Mr. Shore awarded Imperial Service Medal in 1985 and the Legion d'honneur on the 9th December 2015.
