Frank Charles William Drane Born in Diss in July 1894, son of retired railway signalman James and Emily Drane. Educated at Diss Secondry school. Resided in Charlton in London, Enlisted with the 14th (1st London Scottish) London Regiment in Woolwich aged 21 years old with the service number 6769, also served with service number 512834, served in France from the 6th June 1916. Killed on the 1st Day of the Battle of the Somme on the 1st July 1916, commemorated at the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 9 C and 13 C.

The London Scottish were part of 56 Division that were attacking to the very north of the front around the village of Gommecourt in what was a diversionary attack to pin German artillery and manpower down and thus stop them pushing south to help repel the main attack.

Charles Proctor, Lived at 34 Wisbeach Road, Kings Lynn. Enlisted the Royal Garrison Artillery aged 31 and 5 months, on the 8th December 1915, posted to France 7th June 1916. Served with the Royal Garrison Artillery 46 Company and 176 Siege Battery. Wounded and entiteled to SWB. Discharged on the 30th September 1918
