“N0.9279 Sergt John Thomas Jackson, York & Lancaster Regiment
Awarded distinguished conduct medal for conspicuous gallantry throughout the campaign. On one occasion he rushed his gun forward to the captured position, and although wounded in the hand, he continued at his post until his battalion was relieved. Extract from supplement to London Gazette 11/01/1916”
