An important documentary Lowestoft porcelain jug is part of Keys Fine Art Auctioneers three day autumn Fine Sale, which runs from Wednesday 22nd November to Friday 24th November.

In bulbous form and decorated in underglaze blue with floral sprays, the central cartouche is inscribed ‘John Gates Larling 1789’.  John Gates was a farmer at Larling in Norfolk where he was recorded as paying Land Tax.

The jug has a pre-sale estimate of £6,000-£8,000.

Coincidentally, the matching cover, with initials and date, has been consigned separately to the same sale by a different vendor, and has a pre-sale estimate of £800-£850.

The jug goes under the hammer on the first day of Keys’ three day Fine Sale on Wednesday 22nd November.  More details at www.keysauctions.co.uk.
